In collaboration with the Sarov Lab (MPI-Dresden) and the Hobert Lab (Columbia University), we are using fluorescently tagged transgenes to visualize RNA binding protein expression and subcellular localization patterns throughout the nervous system. Our goal is to generate a localization map of these proteins to better understand their relative contributions to regulation of RNA metabolism. We have identified a number of RNA binding proteins with interesting expression patterns in subsets of neurons. We also observe distinct subcellular localization patterns of RNA binding proteins in different neurons. We are currently using the recently developed NeuroPAL strain (right image) to identify which neurons display unique localization and expression patterns.
